The Eastern Health Authority Charter has recently been reviewed and as a result, meetings of the Board of Management of the authority will now take place (as a minimum) on the fourth Wednesday of the months of August, October, January, April & June.

Health Services:

  • Food Surveillance
  • Environmental Health
  • Supported Residential Facility Licensing
  • Communicable Diseases Investigation

Food surveillance: Food premises are monitored by Environmental Health Officers for compliance with the Food Act and Food Hygiene Regulations.

Food related complaints: Concerns regarding food premises, food safety and food handling may be lodged with the Authority for investigation. Food business proprietors may obtain advice/information from the Authority.

Environmental Health: Environmental Health Officers monitor a wide range of premises and conditions under various legislations but primarily under the Public and Environmental Health Act and Regulations.

Premises routinely monitored:

  • Public access swimming pools and spas
  • Hairdressing and beauty salons
  • Skin penetration premises
  • Cooling towers
  • Public toilets
  • Public buildings
  • Boarding houses


Officers of the Authority will investigate and act on complaints regarding the above and also concerns regarding general sanitation and environmental pollution matters, including vermin.

Supported Residential Facilities:

The Authority licences supported residential facilities under the Supported Residential Facilities Act.

Concerns or complaints may be lodged with the Authority. Officers also provide a dispute mediation service.

Communicable Diseases Investigations:

Officers investigate reports of infectious and communicable diseases reported to the Department of Human Services and considered by that Department which require investigation. Officers may contact effected persons for a confidential interview.
